Explore Sweden’s Magical ICEHOTEL on Its 35th Anniversary
25-12-2024

Need an idea for your next winter holiday? How about staying in a hotel made entirely of ice? ❄️✨ Located 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, the world-famous ICEHOTEL offers an experience like no other. This year, it celebrates its 35th anniversary, continuing to wow thousands of visitors from across the globe with its incredible design and unique offerings.

Every winter, the ICEHOTEL is completely rebuilt using 500 tons of ice harvested from the nearby Torne River, alongside a snow-and-ice mixture called snis. The construction takes six weeks, and the result is a blend of accommodation and stunning ephemeral art that melts back into the river when spring arrives. Each room is a masterpiece, created by artists from around the world who transform the walls, floors, and ceilings into intricate, one-of-a-kind designs.

And it’s not just about the rooms—this year, the ICEHOTEL has partnered with Vidde Mobility to offer electric, circular snowmobiles, giving guests an eco-friendly way to explore the pristine Arctic wilderness. Other activities include ice sculpting, dog sledding, wilderness dining, and the traditional Jukkasjärvi sauna ritual. Plus, if you’re lucky, stepping outside might reward you with the magical display of the northern lights.

Even the dining experience is unforgettable. The ICEHOTEL’s restaurant serves a twelve-course menu inspired by the eight Sami seasons, reflecting the deep connection to Lapland’s indigenous Sami people. Everything at this hotel is crafted to immerse you in the Arctic experience—even the drinking glasses and plates are made of ice!

Whether you’re fascinated by art, adventure, or culture, this is one winter escape you won’t forget!
