Meet Oghenemaro Oghenovo, one of Telescope’s newest engineers! Originally from Nigeria, Oghenemaro joined us in August and is now working as a Senior DevSecOps Engineer on a Volvo project in Gothenburg.
Nigeria, known for its rich culture, holds a special place in Oghenemaro’s heart. It’s a country of innovation, creativity, and vibrant music, with Afrobeat leading the way worldwide. While he used to play drums and sing, these days, he humorously refers to his laptop keyboard as his main instrument.
Since settling in Gothenburg, Maro and his wife have been enjoying his new home’s peaceful and central location, just minutes from the city’s main attractions. Maro has quickly become fond of the efficient public transport, the beautiful trees and birds surrounding him, and even a local rock bar he occasionally visits to unwind. However, adjusting to the dark winters has been a challenge—a stark contrast to the equatorial sunshine of Nigeria. Despite this, he’s looking forward to spring and summer, with their endless daylight and opportunities to explore.
At Volvo, Oghenemaro has quickly made an impact. As part of a team developing platforms for software diagnostics, he focuses on creating secure environments for hosting applications, automating processes, and improving infrastructure reliability. Drawing on his experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, he has taken on key responsibilities such as monitoring strategies and mentoring junior engineers, contributing to the success of his team. Maro highlights Volvo’s flat hierarchy and the welcoming nature of his colleagues, who’ve made his transition seamless. He enjoys the relaxed work environment, where everyone feels comfortable sharing jokes, ideas, and feedback.
Sweden’s focus on work-life balance has been a refreshing change for Oghenemaro. He appreciates having the time and freedom to explore new places, enjoy nature, and experience life at a more relaxed pace. He sees himself staying in Sweden for the long term, drawn by its peacefulness, automation, and the surprising fluency of English among Swedes.
